Taylor's Place - Stewart Lake, Yukon

"A Damn Good Stress-free Place
to Relax and Fish"

Fly-in Fishing - 40 Miles North of Watson Lake

Taylor's Place is a small affordable fly-in fishing camp. It is highly recommended by its clients and offers outstanding angling opportunities in a pristine northern setting. At an elevation of 2500 feet, the camp is situated in a broad mountain valley 40 miles due north of Watson Lake, Yukon on beautiful Stewart Lake (See Map). This unique sprawling lake has an overall length of 6 miles and consists of many bay, islands, and inlets. Depths range from shallow to 250 feet. It is surrounded by magnificent mountains and from shoreline to timberline the country is covered with an endless expanse of forest. The area is host to many forms of wildlife which offer great photo opportunities.

Your Host is Don Taylor, who knows all about providing warm Yukon hospitality. Don is a long-time Yukoner who served 24 years in the Yukon Legislature, 11 as Speaker of the House. His former prospecting career in the north brought him to settle at Stewart Lake where he resides year round and enjoys making his guest feel right at home.

A 54 lb Laker

Fishing

The crystal clear waters of Stewart Lake are chock-full of Lake Trout, Northern Pike and Whitefish. The fish are most active when the ice goes out in late May and on through June and July. By August the Trout seek deeper and cooler levels where trolling is most effective. Camp records show Lake Trout over 30 lbs. and Northern Pike up to 28 lbs. We have an abundance of smaller Lake Trout we locally call Red Trout, due to the reddish colour of their fins and meat. They average 2 to 3 lbs. and are absolutely delicious to eat. Northern Pike are spawning in the spring and Lake Trout in September. We promote catch and release where possible.

The Camp

Hospitality is legend at Taylor's Place. Nicely situated among stands of spruce and birch trees, the camp is of good quality utilizing outdoor toilet facilities. Cabins are clean and comfortable, kitchen equipped and have both single and double beds. Tasty home-cooked meals are served family style at the camp as well. Towels, pillows, etc. are provided although we do ask our guests to bring along a light summer sleeping bag. This helps reduce our maintenance costs and allows us to offer you the most affordable rates possible. Camp life is very relaxed and unstructured. Following a familiarization tour, guests are encouraged to proceed to their own pace without the need of a guide.

General Information

The short forty-mile flights are flown exceptionally well maintained floatplanes by experienced pilots from Watson Lake, Yukon. Guests are responsible for their own flights in out of camp.

Guests are reminded to bring along a light summer sleeping bag and clothing to suit the season. We would suggest warm clothing in the evening, rain gear and good footwear for hiking along one of our scenic trails.

Our boats are sturdy aluminum and are powered by 10 hp Mercury and Evenrude motors. Following a familiarization tour, guests may proceed without the need of a guide.

Spinning and trolling rods are genereally used with medium to large size lures. Red devil, ruby eyes and five of diamond lures usually bring good results. We have fishing outfits for the use of our clients. Fishing licenses are available at camp.

The camp is open from late May until September. Rates are affordable and in Canadian dollars. They include food, accommodation, boats and motors.
