Welcome to the THE FLY-IN FISHING AND HUNTING CAPITAL of ONTARIO & THE NORSEMAN CAPITAL OF THE WORLD |
FISHINGThere are many hundreds of lakes in the Red Lake District. Many of them reached by car as you drive north on Highway 105. Others may be reached only by boat or seaplane. Charter flying services operate out of Red Lake and Cochenour offering seaplane trips to many ardent fishermen, with northern pike, walleyes, lake trout, muskies, bass and perch plentiful throughout the area. HUNTINGThe Red Lake District is famous for its ability to provide the hunter with a better than average chance to bag his trophy moose or bear. Both are plentiful and routinely seen along the scenic trip up Highway 105 (See Map). Smaller game such as ducks and grouse help to round out a hunting trip that you will long remember. |

WATER SPORTS
The pure, clean waters of our lakes offer unexcelled opportunities for swimming, skin diving, and water skiing. More and more visitors are taking advantage of our warm summer months to indulge in the water sport activities. It doesn't take long to catch your limit of fish, so why not bring along your diving gear, water skis and bathing suit, to complete a real vacation outing. A number of developed sand beaches are available to the public, with change houses and barbecue facilities. Most camps are now offering guests a chance to take to the waterways for these extra hours of pleasure. |
CAMPINGA number of camps offer facilities for camper trailers with the use of lodge facilities. Ask us for details on these features when you contact us. PHOTOGRAPHYEverywhere you turn, there are scenes you will want to remember always. Lakes, rapids, wildlife, beautiful scenic forests, as well as the fish and game you will see. A series of pictures of the fishing and hunting trip are something you will treasure in later years. Snaps of the children enjoying themselves on the beach, having a shorelunch, or just plain loafing, will always be a joy. |

OTHER ACTIVITIESThere is always something to do in the District no matter which of our four distinct seasons you choose to visit. In the winter you can enjoy snowmobiling or cross-country skiing on miles of groomed and signed trails. If the snowmobile oriented Snowfest or Cross County Moonski don't interest you, perhaps one of the local curling bonspiels or hockey tournaments will. The Trapper's Festival held in late February is also an excellent event celebrated in an atmosphere of cross cultural sharing. Summer offers golf, swimming, and softball
to both visitors an residents. Biking and hiking on miles of bush roads
and trails will interest some while others will enjoy exploring nature
and our unique local history. A number of festivals and local sports tournaments
fill up the days quickly. From Canada Day celebrations on July 1, to the
Norseman Festival in mid-July to Legion Week Celebrations and the Red
Lake Fall Classic Fishing Tournament in the beginning of September - there
is a great time to be had in Red Lake for all family members. |
