Lake of the Woods

Lecuyer's Lodge is located on Lake of the Woods in northwestern Ontario (map). Here, you will find the finest in walleye, muskie, northern pike, bass, crappie and lake trout fishing. Our hunting is superb! Trophy white tail deer, moose, and bear are harvested annually. If you're a bird sportsman then our water fowl and grouse await you. We specialize in all inclusive package plans for sportsmen, families and corporate groups. This is a family built enterprise and we've operated since 1946.

Aside from the great fishing and hunting, you'll discover our good service, high quality meals, clean accommodations, comfortable beds, lots of hot water, and a reliable and knowledgeable staff.

Fishing

They say, nobody can hold a candle to the muskie action at Lake of the Woods. This water body holds the largest concentration in both numbers and size. We have recorded releases up to 57" long. They must be 48" long to be a legal catch. This guarantees both good numbers and large fish in our lake. Last year over 93 were legally caught, of which only 3 were kept. The rest were released by contemporary fisherman.

We routinely see Northern Pike, with the average being in the 5-10 lb. range caught here. True trophies (i.e. the 37 pound variety) are not rare. These fiish need both the water and forage to become big. They also need longer growing seasons - a norm on Lake on the Woods.

More and more anglers are discovering that Lake of the Woods is a discovery zone for walleye. So good, in fact, that two of the premier fishing magazines in the country have written special articles naming this area as a "world-class" fishery.

Since 1984, the average size of walleye taken has doubled from one to two pounds. The Ministry of Natural Resources reports that "the number of three to five-pound walleye is on the upswing and that trophies of up to 14 pounds are within reason".

Deep, cold water is what Lake Trout like. Just a 10 minute ride from the lodge, you'll find one of the finest, most beautiful trout lakes you'll ever want to fish. Lake trout here come in the 3 - 10 lb. range. Crow Lake is very deep and crystal clear with visibility of 25' or better.

Islands, shallow rocky shorelines, weedy back bays and hundreds of reefs. These are what make up our lake. They are also the favorite places for smallmouth. Our smallmouth run in the 2-5 lb. range, with some caught up to 7 lbs. just last year.

Our largemouth fishing just keeps getting better as well, ranging from 2-5 lbs. The largest caught in 2000 was 7.9 lbs.

Crappie fishing... it's excellent! In the spring we catch them in very shallow water. Mid-summer they are suspended. Come late summer they start moving to deep holes. Average sizes from 3/4 lb. to 1 1/4 lb., with Crappie up to 2 3/4 lb. taken each year. In the fall, the schools can be graphed - up to 100 yards long and 20 yards wide. They make for fantastic pan fishing and they're the tastiest treat to eat.

Hunting

Our white-tail deer hunting is excellent. We also boast some prime moose hunting opportunities. All areas are pre-scouted by our hunting staff to help ensure your success. We take nice moose racks each year ranging from 38" to 55". The package hunt is truly all inclusive, you need only bring your personal gear, guns and ammo. We provide all transportation to and from hunting areas using newer 4/4 trucks. Nothing is spared to help in both finding and helping to get your trophy out. You will be provided one pro staff hunting guide for each 3 hunters in your party. A complete information package will be forwarded to you and your group once your booking has been confirmed with the lodge. As we have only a limited number of trophy hunts available each year you should contact the lodge well ahead of your targeted hunting dates to avoid disappointment in not getting to hunt this year or next.

Accommodations

Your cottage overlooks and is close to the lake and offers you a spectacular sunset each evening. You'll find everything you need, as your cottage comes fully equipped. Each includes a full kitchen with gas cookstove, oven/broiler, utensils, pots, pans, coffee pot, etc. and outside a bar-b-que grill.

Our cottages have 2, 3, and 4 bedrooms complete with 3 & 4 piece bath. Larger cottages have an additional bathroom. We can sleep you, and up to 11 of your friends in their own beds in the same cottage. Fresh linens, pillows and blankets are furnished. With any American Plan Package, we supply complimentary beverages in your fridge, coffee in your cabin, and maid service and towel changes daily.

Main Lodge

Our main lodge and dining room, overlooks Sabaskong Bay, is a gathering place for our guests. Here, you can enjoy your favorite team on our big screen stereo television via satellite, have a cold glass of cheer, eat pizza and listen to a tall tale or tell a few tall tales of your own.

In 1994, we added a new, five star kitchen.! Your meals are prepared by chefs, who create very tasteful and unique northwoods cuisine, using only the finest well hung aged beef, grade A turkeys and chickens and the freshest fruits and vegetables. You'll also enjoy our very own fresh baked breads, buns, pies and a large variety salad bar. Quite simply, the finest foods in the northwoods, in both quality and portions.
