Little Vermilion is the largest in an eleven-lake system. Approximately sixteen miles long, Little Vermillion is a long narrow body of water with a lower and upper section. These spring-fed waters are deep and cold with numerous bays, reefs, and deep weed beds that have created excellent fish-holding structures. The lake forage consists of whitefish, cisco, suckers, perch, various minnow life, and crayfish. With the combination of all these factors, the unpressured-waters of Little Vermilion offers our guests some of the best sportfishing Canada has to offer; year after year. We at Fireside Lodge follow a catch-and-release program to protect the resource and the sport. Therefore, along with ten additional lakes accessed by creeks or portages, this multi-lake system offers exceptional sportfishing. Just imagine having eight lakes to pursue Northern Pike, six for Smallmouth Bass, six for Muskie. Three of these lakes had been closed for fishing since the 1930's but are now opened for anglers. | |

Fireside Lodge Accomodations Fireside Lodge is a unique structure, built in 1904. It provides a homey meeting place for friends, new and old, to gather and enjoy each other's company, or to just sit quietly and savour the moment. A bag of freshly popped corn will hit the spot while sitting by the large fireplace. The more active will take on the challenge of a game of pool or ping-pong. Books, puzzles, and board games are here to fill some quiet time. The spacious screened-in porch allows you to enjoy our fantastic Canadian sunsets. You will enjoy hearty home-cooked meals in our dining room and a friendly atmosphere where you can share the stories of the day. Our lodge provides a change of atmosphere from your everyday life. Photographers will enjoy the natural surroundings and the wildlife that our area has to offer. For the exercise enthusiast, our two miles of quiet scenic road are excellent for jogging or hiking. |

Mealtime at Fireside Lodge!
Breakfast is a completely open menu consisting of everything from cold and hot cereals to loaded omelettes. The choice is yours every morning. Lunches are packed "to go" as a picnic lunch or shore lunch. Picnic lunches include sandwiches, chips, cookies, fruit and beverage. Shore lunches consist of everything you need to cook a shoreline lunch with walleye and whitefish fillets, potatoes, onions, and beans. As for dinner, all meals are home cooked quality with portions to delight even a hearty "northwoods" appetite. Pastries & baked goods are all made "from scratch." Our menu will please every palette. If you choose to stay out on the lake during dinner hours, we'll gladly pack up a shoreline dinner for you. If you lose track of time and fish right through the dinner hours, a meal will be packed up and be waiting for you in your cabin or room. So don't worry about sacrificing meals for your fishing routine. |

Beginning with a personal greeting upon your arrival, you will receive a complete orientation of the lake system, including fishing tactics and a well marked map. A demonstration of the operation of the equipment will start you off comfortably on your first venture out on the lake. Our motors are 20 hsp Mercury motors, new every year. The 16 foot Lund boats have floors, swivel seats, anchors and are equipped with landing nets and fish cradles. Your boat will be serviced with gas and maintained daily. Communication does not end after the first day. We are available every day to answer any questions you may have, or just to talk fishing. We can help you plan your days, whether they be fishing strategies or new adventures. We can also direct you to points of nature in our serene wilderness. We at Fireside Lodge want to preserve the exceptional sportfishing on Little Vermilion Lake. To do so, we ask our guests to follow the catch-and-release program that we believe will keep the fishery abundant. Your efforts, along with ours, will enable Fireside Lodge to continue to be the place to catch the big one. We would like to have the opportunity to share Fireside Lodge with you, your family, and your friends. Let us make your long-awaited trip a memorable one.
